[REPLAY] Workshop #4 “Consumer perception and sustainability of algae products”
On april 27th 2026, we held the 4th workshop
in the series organized throughout the CIRCALGAE project and organized by CEVA with the active support of Aquimer and the project partners.
This session brought together researchers and industry experts to explore two major topics shaping the future of the algae sector: consumer perception and sustainability assessment.
The first part focused on how seaweed-based products are perceived by different audiences. Speakers shared insights on consumer profiles, acceptance of algae-enriched foods among specific groups such as older adults, cultural drivers influencing consumption in France, and the growing interest in algae-based ingredients in cosmetics. These contributions highlighted the importance of understanding expectations, habits, and perceptions to support market development.
The second part addressed sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies applied to algae systems. Discussions covered European approaches to harmonising LCA practices, the valorisation of algae residues through combined environmental and economic assessments, and frameworks designed to ensure robust and transparent sustainability claims in the sector.
