Looking Back at the First Algae Fair in France
At CIRCALGAE, we are proud to have taken part in the very first Algae Fair held in France, hosted in Rennes. This inaugural event marks a significant step for the national and European algae industry, and it provided an ideal platform for us to showcase the progress achieved over the past three years within our project.
Over two days, our team had the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of visitors: industry professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators, curious citizens, and families. The public opening on Sunday exceeded expectations and confirmed the growing interest in algae-based solutions. Through numerous discussions—ranging from highly technical questions to expressions of pure curiosity, we witnessed just how much attention and excitement algae now generate.
At the CIRCALGAE stand, we presented several prototypes developed within the project, spanning the food, feed, and cosmetics sectors. Visitors were able to test algae-based skincare formulations and explore the remarkable diversity of possible applications. These interactions provided a tangible demonstration of the real potential of algal biomass across multiple fields: nutrition, health, agriculture, well-being, and bio-based materials.
Throughout the event, we also highlighted the European opportunities that enable and support collaborative innovation projects like ours, as well as the strong dynamics already present across France: industrial innovation, applied research and even career opportunities emerging in this fast-growing sector.
This first edition clearly reaffirms the importance of raising awareness and shifting public perception around algae. By meeting citizens, explaining our work, and allowing them to discover and experience tomorrow’s innovations, we contribute to the emergence of a strong, competitive, and sustainable algae-based industry.
For CIRCALGAE, this event represents an important milestone. It strengthens our ambition to continue exploring, demonstrating, and supporting the development of innovative, algae-based circular solutions that contribute to a more resilient and sustainable blue economy.
